The Feeling I Feel

It’s the feeling I feel deep down inside
When I step into glory of daybreak
Dazzled by the radiant face
Of rising sun above quiet hills
My nostrils filled with the cool, crisp air
Of a new and unmarred day
That promises a new beginning
Another chance to live and grow
Mountains and clouds aglow
Stroked by colors of the dawn
The sleepy valley in silence lays
Unaware the wings of morn have flown.
The cloak of darkness, the shadows of night
Have retraced their soundless steps
Retreating to that unseen place
That you and I will never know.

It’s the feeling I feel within my heart
When the day begins to end
And standing alone with my faithful shadow
I survey the beauty of another eve
As God takes His colorful brush
And paints before my eyes
A sunset to remember
The evening star gracing the heavens
And soon is followed by others
Who together will lull to sleep the valleys
And dance and play above the hills
A large and orange moon
Slowly rising toward the sky
To replace her brighter rival
And guard the slumbering world
Reducing eerie shadows
Of the fast-approaching night.

It’s the feeling I feel inside
When I see mountains and hills
Touched by autumn’s hand
Standing tall, flaunting their new attire
And I watch the crisp leaves swirl
As they ride on chilly winds
That playfully tease and toss them
With strong, invisible hand
When skies rumble and approaching rains
Envelop the air with petrichor
As the earth prepares to be purged
It’s the feeling I feel when winter
Dresses all of nature
In the purest hue of white
And I hear bone-chilling wind
Through snow-clad branches whoosh.

It’s the feeling I always feel
When spring at last arrives
All of nature to set free
From winter’s cold and icy reign
Beckoning the sleepy dells
From their winter drowse to awake
Flowers, butterflies are scattered about
And the winter-battered heart
Begins to sing its song again
It’s the feeling I feel within my breast
When summer returns and embraces me
As I walk beaches of shimmering sand
Gulls and waves filling my horizon
I look out on the restless sea
As it disappears where blue meets blue
And I wonder what lies yonder
Far beyond where my eyes can rest.

When the breeze sweeps over me
When I walk through flowered meadows
And hear birds’ heartwarming songs
Or the tinkling rain’s berceuse
In the many moments like these
There’s a feeling that stirs my heart
And awakens in the depths of my soul
It is nostalgia, melancholy perhaps
It fills my heart with a happy sadness
And I wish that the fleeting moment
Would freeze and endure like a photograph.
It’s a sigh on my lips, a longing within
A contented, wistful heart that beats
It’s a feeling I cannot explain
Something to me unfathomable
This feeling I often feel.
