While you wait

Funmilayo
While you wait
Keeping the gates, seeking approval
Afraid of being called names,
I wore the labels proudly, straightened my gait
Broke down the shackles around my waist.
While you wait
In undue hesitation
I pulled out pitchforks,
Wiped off the blood and dragged on
While you wait, tiptoeing on egg shells
Goody two shoes, breath abated.
I climbed up naked,
Shattered the ceiling
Stared at the sun as it stung
My heart and lungs burnt

While you wait
Crippled by fear
I swam in the flood,
Danced in the rain as it hid my tears
While you wait,
Waiting for life to start
For someone to push you like a refuse cart
I have lived life
With scars and names,
The one who was dragged on
As grown wings like a Dragon
Using the darts for the bonfire
While you wait for my mistakes to kill me,
While you wait standing by instead of helping me
I have lived a million lives,
I learned, I have loved, I am laughing at the sun.
I am the waves on the shore, cleaning up the footprints
Of your tiny feet that has only just begun.
While you wait, I have gone,
Long gone, unafraid and unashamed.
