My Poetry Forum

Coming Soon! Basically this is a facility, which creates a stronger link between users. This is achieved by users giving each other recognition for, and incentive to rate each other's poetry. So how does it work? Well once you have rated all or a significant amount of another user's poetry you gain the ability to sponsor them. What this means is that when a user who is sponsored by you rates any of your poems they get double credit for doing so. You can sponsor or check who has sponsored you from the ‘user sponsors’ link in the sidebar. Another user will become eligible for sponsorship by you, if you have rated all or more than 15 of their poems provided that they have submitted at least 5 poems.

When users want to say something to the other users they can post their thoughts by using the Forum Messaging Service. Each posted message can be commented on thus forming a new thread of communication based on the original message. In this way users can have debates, arrange get-togethers, little competitions or whatever strikes their fancy. A new message can be posted for 600 credits, posting replies to messages cost 50 credits!

The MPF Top 100 is a listing of poems ordered by Nomination Rate. In other words the percentage of reviewers who chose to give the poem a nomination. In order for a poem to qualify for this listing it will need at least 7 nominations, as the listing grows this prerequisite will be pushed up. This listing should therefore give the best indication of the poems most highly thought of by users, as such these poems will be the ones considered in the event of creating a poetry bundle.

This is a facility which allows you to create a list of your favorite poems, allowing for easy access to your favorite poems. You can add a poem to your list from the My Favorites menu or by clicking the 'Add to Favorites' button when viewing a poem. Adding a favourite costs 50 credits.

Before users may contribute to the forum, they will have to create an account and log in. Creating an account is easily done by filling out the form found by clicking on the 'Register' link. Once the user is registered they must log in using their username and password from the 'Login' link. User sessions are created using temporary cookies so cookies will need to be enabled to use this service. There is also some use of javascript in the site, but this should not pose a problem to most users since all modern browsers are javascript enabled. Once logged in the user's name should appear in the sidebar, along with some additional links, there will also be a message indicating that they have logged on successfully in the message bar on the main page.

What has probably happened is that the date on your computer is incorrectly set too far in advance. So that when the cookie, (which deletes itself after a certain amount of time) is passed to you prompting the message "You have succesfully logged in" it checks the time on your PC and realises it should have been deleted a long time ago. The absence of the cookie then makes it unable for you to access the user areas.

The most important aspect of getting constructive commentry on your poetry is to take the time to evaluate the poetry of other users, people are much more likely to reciprocate, when they see that you have taken the time to do so with regards to their work. Users are encouraged to make use of the requests fascility.

All registered users have a 'User profile' which contains some information about the user, users can also modify any aspect of their profile once logged in by clicking on the 'Your Profile' link in the sidebar. If this link does not display once logged in the user must hit refresh. In addition the user profile also contains a customizable user image, users can upload a 50x50 pixel .jpg image of their choice, which is displayed alongside their comments.

A user's poem can only be added, deleted or modified once they have logged in, this will have to be done every time they visit the site. All these functions can be completed by clicking on the appropriate link in the sidebar.

To find an appropriate listing of the poems on the forum database users should click on the 'browse poems' link.

Users can send a request to other users, asking them to take a look at one of their poems. Users can check for new requests and send their own to someone from the page accesable thru the 'requests' link on the sidebar.

The credit system is a means of enforcing user participation in the forum. Users gain 100 credits every time they rate a poem and lose 400 credits for every poem they add to the forum. There for users need to rate 3 poems for every poem that they submit. Having a high credit rating also gets the user listed among the Top 25 users.

Poems can be given a mark of between 1 and 5 stars ( 5 stars being the best ), in addition poems can also be given a nomination which is a point towards appearing on the list of top 25 poems. A user can only nominate or vote for a poem once.

Users are encouraged to provide constructive commentary on the poetry of others, if a user has already submitted a comment with an accompanying rating to a specified poem, they will not be able to rate that poem again, but by leaving the rating field in the comment form empty they can add additional comments to the poem at a later stage if they wish.

The users with the most credits to their names are listed here, and they have a chance that their newest poem is displayed on the front page, in the 'Display Cabinet' area.

The 25 poems with the most nominations will be listed here. Taking their place among the best the forum has to offer!

All poems are the property of their respective owners, as stipulated by the copyright notice leading to the user's profile at the end of every poem. Users have full control over any of their submissions and may delete or modify them at any time.
