Letter to My Angel

25 Aug 2009

Vagabond
My darling little Angel,
Daddy wants to talk,
And tell you many wondrous things,
Shall we take a walk?

I was there the moment,
You arrived on Earth,
And God lent me an Angel,
Through the miracle of birth

They tried to make me hold you,
As you kicked your legs and cried,
And I was scared, but they pressed on,
Until I finally tried.

I changed your diaper many times,
And fed you, heard you weep,
And more than once we cuddled up,
And together fell asleep.

I was there for your first meal,
Of mashed potatoes and bread,
And you cried, and screamed because,
You wanted my burger instead.

I remember your first word,
And how it made me glad,
You woke me up at 3 am,
Just to hear you say "Dad"

I'll never forget those first few steps,
How you'd try, and fall,
But determined, like your mother was,
You finally made them all.

And I remember your first day of school,
How scared you were I know,
And how I carried you to the bus,
And cried as I watched you go.

I recall your first bike ride,
Without the training wheels,
And how you rode for hours then,
Yelling how good it feels.

I'll never forget the day you fell,
And cut your arm so bad
The stitches hurt, but we went to the store,
You got the biggest Freeze Pop they had.

And I remember your favorite book,
We read it every night,
And always were amazed the Horton managed
To make the Who's all right.

And thousand more I have to share,
But time is growing short,
So wait a bit, and hug, me hon,
While Daddy shares one more.

Forever I'll remember, the last time we had,
The last time I saw your face,
You lay there, so much like your China Doll,
With that pretty angel face.

You lay so still, and so at peace,
And I lost my heart that day,
And I'll never forget the promise I made,
When I finally come that way.

Just wait for me, beside the gate,
And watch that road of gold,
And some day I'll come, I promise you that,
Just like the preacher told.

And when I arrive, I'll take your hand,
And we'll go in together,
And walk those streets, and share all these,
Our memories, forever.

Not much to tell, but I am me...purely, unapologetically me. I value honesty and reality in people, and have no time for followers or pretenders. Each person is unique and valuable in their own way, and to minimize that by attempting to be someone...
