Prayer To Myself

Oh ye gods of sage and savage, of might and malice, of bane and benevolence, 
Hear my polemic and the bellow of my being!
I will not soil my knees before you!
I will not disturb your sleep with selfish prayers! 
I will not grovel at your icy feet begging for table scraps of mercy and salvation. No!
Today I stand amongst you, and invite my earthy brethren to join me here as equals. 
Today I worship myself, for my existence is better known,
And it is not yet certain who created who. 
Oh carnal shell of flesh and brawn, may the peaks of earthly perfection tremble beneath your feet, 
May your resplendent flames of incandescence be fueled by vigor
and yet more so by the piercing swell of pain.
May you retch and heave at the emetic fruits of faith and tradition, 
May your sinewed wrists spew blood before wearing the platinum shackles 
of materialism and may your eyes thus flash with luminance and recalcitrance. 
Oh pulsing mind- may you never be ensnared by the sordid rust of conviction,
never immured by the marmoreal walls of ideology, and never infested by the putrid rot of blind belief! 
May you thus rive through these realms of trenchant chaos and turmoil 
yet free to see, to absorb, to evolve
And may you find your breeze of serenity in this maelstrom 
like a Spartan in the squalls of battle.
Oh raging hungers of greed, of lust, of passion - may you gorge without restriction
But only on that which makes me stronger, and more human.
A greed to aid others, 
A lust for knowledge
and a passion for life.
