Crying in the Moonlight (Revised(
It was a moment of enlightenment A moment when everything was clear A moment when I knew the answers A moment I knew the end was near And my eyes were weeping in the darkness And my heart was bleeding for mankind I saw the grim spectres of our future I saw harbingers of doom in my mind And I saw that the devil was laughing And I saw the angels start to pray A lone figure crying in the moonlight I heard a requiem begin to play It was a vision of disenchantment A vision full of fantasies and fears A vision of destruction and despair A vision thro a veil of streaming tears And my eyes were weeping in the darkness And my heart was bleeding in dismay I saw the burnt out theatres of war I saw tragic desolation and decay And I saw a bleak deserted wasteland And I saw poison from the devil’s breath A lone figure crying in the moonlight A lonely blue planet soaked in death It was a question of compassion A question I was asking for us all A question that didn’t have an answer A question that was written on the wall And my eyes were weeping in the darkness And my heart was bleeding from the pain I had asked for divine intervention I had asked for a chance to try again But I saw we were beyond redemption I saw no one would listen to my plea And the figure crying in the moonlight Saw a poisonous cloud across the sea It was time to face consequences It was time for the setting of the sun Time to shed a tear for our children It was time to beat the funeral drum And my eyes were weeping in the darkness And my heart was bleeding for our fate The sacrificial lamb of innocence Lay bleating on an altar of hate I saw a dark star falling from the sky Vapour rising from the boiling sea A lone figure crying in the moonlight I wondered who on earth it could be It was a prayer of desperation A prayer as I knelt amongst the throng A prayer that would never be answered A prayer far too late to right the wrong And my eyes were weeping in the darkness And my heart was bleeding for our plight I learned of the apocalypse dawning And I learned of the never ending night I saw that all hope was lost forever And what was waiting on the other side A lone figure crying in the moonlight I knew now who it was and why he cried ----------------- It was a night filled with revelations And a dance from the whore of babylon A night on a dying nuclear planet A night on which the devil knew he’d won And my eyes were bleeding tears of darkness My shattered heart was beating in my chest It was time to make the final journey Down the dark road to eternal rest I took a last look over my shoulder The writing was no longer on the wall There was no one crying in the moonlight There was nothing whatsoever at all
