An Existential Darkness
While gazing in that haunting human void, Just East of Nietzsche, to the left of Freud, Some thing beneath the shadows woke and swayed, Its menace towards the mortal soul deployed. Life’s nectar only oozes from its thorn. The human mind, to seeking purpose sworn Is marred by worldly chaos; raw and stern – And in that spark absurdity is born. A chilling truth into our being entwines As nature’s callous handiwork designs The only beast to contemplate its death Inside the sordid boon which is our minds. Thus to the panicked chattering of teeth, A morbid fear which always ebbs beneath The wicked blade engraved in our demise That slithers gravely from its fatal sheath. So grip the fading instant and arise, Then set upon this world those shining eyes See splendor in this existential haze, For it may be our only paradise.
