Beyond Pascal’s Wager: A Quest for Theological Insurance

Behold! The famous lottery of Gods,
To win or lose this game is something major,
I’ve taken time to calculate the odds
And could not be content on Pascal’s Wager.
And so for every crucifix I see,
My palms collide my faith begins to widen,
But when I stroll along the angry sea,
I’m quick to swear allegiance to Poseidon.
When I’m not counting Thetans with Tom Cruise,
I’m bowing before Thor and Baal almighty,
The second I am done exalting Zeus,
I’m sneaking off to worship Aphrodite.
On Saturday I’m drinking like a bass,
My faith intent on shagging every diva,
On Sunday I renounce it all in mass,
On Monday I am back to praising Shiva.
Incanting my Hail Mary’s I atone,
For boozing, brawling sinning with the ladies,
But in my bag I always have a bone
In case I’m met by Cerberus in Hades.
I’m praying 50 times a day, at least!
And slaughter goats for every God and Goddess,
Held hostage in my basement lives a priest,
Where I confess for every unlaced bodice.
I rubbish Darwin, Hail Adam and Eve!
That trick with Adam’s rib would trump all surgeons,
And if Allah would grant me a reprieve,
I’d settle for two whores and forty virgins.
I’m confident my plan is now astute,
And I’ve increased my chance to score redemption,
Though I’ve become a pious prostitute,
Professing any God who’s worth a mention.
So in the grace of every God I dwell,
Yet there’s a chance my project may dishevel,
If all my scheming lands me straight in Hell,
You’ll find me fixing heaters for the Devil.

My muse can be unseemly and nomadic although she fancies meter and good rhyme, her diligence and output are sporadic, and some may say she’s moving past her prime. At times she’s off consorting with the sages reflecting on existence, as it were, At...
