The Side of Me that People See

The side of me that people see,
Is a soldier proud and without fear,
A man who’s always seeking fun,
That never ventures far from beer,
They think they know my carefree life,
A single man that’s living free,
But few will doubt the image flaws,
Of the side of me that people see.
The side of me that no one knows,
Is a life that often time’s a mess,
A lonely man who’s seldom loved,
Writes poetry to deal with stress,
A man who often deals with pain,
Puts death and heartbreak in his prose,
And friends of mine will few suspect,
Of the side of me that no one knows.
The man in which I have aspired,
Tends to be a mix of both,
A man who people call their friend,
Who strives to learn through Christian growth,
A morale man and reasoned thinker,
Emotional, but not a wreck.
A man with love and endless passion,
But keeps his lustful thoughts in check,
Striving always while looking forward,
Who can not feel the past that’s mired,
This man the world may one day see,
Of the man in which I have aspired.
