A Place of rest
I know a place of peace and rest Where the cherry blossom blows, And scent of roses fills the air. Where a soft and gentle breeze Lightly stirs the heads of flowers: Iris, foxglove and sweet-scented stock. Where martins dart across the sky, And the setting sun touches the copse, And sparkles across the glistening pond. And to the bench where now I sit. The sky is red and the air is still, And blackbirds start their evening song. I close my eyes; a comfort I feel. I hear the rooks gathering to roost. The church bell tolls at eventide; It tolls for all, and it tolls for me. “Remember. Remember me,” she said; “I will ever be with thee.” I open my eyes and see above A robin perched upon a branch; A feather softly falls to the ground. A butterfly settles on a leaf. A whisper I hear by my side: “Remember,” she said, “remember me.” I lie back and close my eyes, I think of times, now long ago, And memories that pass and fade, Autumn evenings in the garden, At ease with God’s creation; His love for us so clearly seen. Out in the autumn sun we sat, Side by side upon the bench; A blackbird rummaging at our feet. The warmth of soothing touch; The gentle tones of loving words. So real my memories of undying love: Another day draws to a close, As summer approaches autumn time, What does the future hold for me? Is the present a fleeting instant? Are memories past a distant reality? Is winter just death in an eternal cycle? I see a flurry of autumn leaves, I lie back and close my eyes - A tender whisper, heard no more. And winter is about to come.

Love creativity - especially writing - poems especially. Love my wife, cats, our church, reading, warm weather (so rare here!) and snow - quite common these days - even in spring....
