The long summer of 1976
Memories of hot school holiday bliss
Britain's hottest summer for 249 years
16 weeks as hot as 96.6 Fahrenheit
each day the sun was so hot and bright
14 hours of sunshine every day
It was the year of the ladybirds so they say
Save water was the moto
Reservoirs dried up to muddy grotto
The adults prayed for rain
Us kids wanted the heatwave never end and stay the same
Fields of brown dried out grass
And hot sticky nights would slowly pass
From May to September
If you was young enough
You will remember
