Through Wind so Sharp and Cold - A Sonnet
The wind is howling down the lane, The rooks above now screech and scream; By them I’m scorned with such disdain, But on I trudge through life extreme. In churchyard now, by tomb unknown, A sacred face - He's standing there; The vision fades, I’m so alone, My heart so sad and in despair. My life so wild, I know, - untamed, And He was scorned, deceived, betrayed; What now for me? In death so shamed? “Oh Lord!” I scream, “In life I’ve strayed.” “Hear my cry and set me free!” “No refuge, Lord, now here for me! ” 14 December 2019 This poem is in the form of a Shakespearean sonnet with three four-line verses (quatrains) and a final two-line couplet. It has a rhyming scheme of ABAB CDCD EFEF GG. It is based, in part, on Psalm 142. It differs from a true Shakespearean sonnet in that it is written in the form of an ‘iambic tetrameter’ rather than an ‘iambic pentameter’; that is, it has four beats in a line rather than five. The first two quatrains establish the setting of the poem, the third adds an overall comment, while, in this case, the final couplet establishes a conclusion to the sonnet.

Love creativity - especially writing - poems especially. Love my wife, cats, our church, reading, warm weather (so rare here!) and snow - quite common these days - even in spring....
