The Wolf and the Sheep

Love comes in many forms,
And every lover has different intentions.
Some are genuine,
Others are not.
But they can play the part very well.

Appearing sweet and warm,
Waiting until you are close enough,
So it can devour you whole.
It can be a very convincing deception too,
To be loved and obsessed over,
By the ultimate predator.

When the negatives are listed so plainly,
In the light of day,
You’ll question the sanity and self worth
Of anyone who could stay.

What kind of fool can be so close to a predator
And choose to be its prey?
Opting for life in a daze,
Lying frequently to themselves,
And others.

Before you judge too harshly,
The deception of true love can be very convincing.
They whisper all the right sweet nothings,
Showered in never ending compliments,
Hearing everything you’ve ever wanted to hear.
When you look at it like this,
Who wouldn’t turn a blind eye to a few occasional transgressions?

It’s easy to forgive the small misgivings
And the more you do it,
The easier it gets,
Even as those little misgivings
Become devastating.
But that’s okay!
The Sheep is great at rationalising their Wolf's bad behaviour.

Once the Wolf sees that the Sheep will rationalise anything,
They let their guard down.
The facade is dropped.
The loving and understanding partner is gone.
The's Sheep's individuality is gone,
They are left with a wolf
Who plans to consume their sheep entirely.
