Darkness....my old friend, thank you for coming,

I have been waiting to feel the sensation of your touch.

Please, cover me completely, let no light interrupt our union.

Once we are bonded, it should remain as such.

 

I want to slowly breathe in your enveloping shadow,

Feel your darkness fill every space within.

To satiate my mind and soul with your soothing power,

Letting peace and inner harmony begin.

 

Please linger there, suffuse your goodness throughout.

While my eyes, though open, see no light,

No sound, but for the beat of my now enriched heart,

Reverberating on this still, dark night.

 

A calming sense of isolation, alone in this cold world,

With nothing to harm me, nothing to fear.

This is my world, my haven, my escape from life,

A place to be myself, for my worries to clear.

 

As time must pass, sedation must give way to awakening,

Solitude no longer, survival taking centre stage.

Day approaches relentlessly, tugging at my comfort blanket,

Blinding my mind with it's overwhelming rage.

 

Daily trials undertaken, incessant voices pounding,

Contradictory thoughts buzzing in my head.

A manic existence that I no longer want to suffer,

I want to live, with peace and quiet instead.
