The silent scream

Benhur
Cassandra's curse is floating, haunting
deafening scream in a void of darkness
To appease my senses and turmoil inside
a world I created to outrun here and now
surreal like waves frozen in motion
where innocent souls come for peace
so those who died too soon, bewildered
at the claws of the cruel, wicked men
with love in their hearts no longer
repulsive, repugnant, revolting …
Now innocent souls open their eyes
in a strange land behind this world
fooled in their senses and sudden passing
calling to loved ones unknowingly, sadly
for echoes of their voices alone return
painfully revealing, that they are no more
The Ancient Book says our days are grass
as the flowers of the field so we bloom
and Cassandra your presence here I deny
Still life snubbed out by evil men
unfulfilled dreams and potential huge
past understanding, not realized, wasted
tears of their loved ones fill a lake
feeding tiny brooks and crystal fountains
beauty abounds in hills and valleys
clouds shape dreams and wishes at will
your face Cassandra swims into view
mountains majestically cling to the blue
trees in all shapes and sizes and yields
life in grandeur like the First Paradise
yet all this, my own doing, make believe
meager attempt to deal with the senseless
the killings and the rapes and the crimes
my fantasy haven for the innocent souls
futile at best, now Cassandra I am you
hell awaits this place I return to
a real world with pending doom foretold
misunderstood, ill begotten, yet accepted
here, in the Land of the silent scream …
