Pre-Dreams and Dreams

layers of cocoons
sub-surface thoughts
middles of plots
flashes of scenes
preludes to dreams
the conscious mind
   dis
      en
         gages
              from the surface
and sinks a bit
and blinks a bit
and reshapes
and rewinds
and reburns
with its own
mysterious engine
thoughts become images
images become snippets
and soon I’m starring
in self-produced
dramas, adventures,
horrors, action thrillers,
romances, comedies, mysteries, and
only in my dreams can I practice flying and
only in my dreams can I survive dying and
only in my dreams am I never lying
