Loaner

27 Jan 2020

undawnted
you set me up to take the fall
you knew you didn't want me
why did you let me love you?
when you can't love at all?

it hurt when you left me
more than you'll ever know
with one foot out the door
I should've realized:
you were just on loan

I didn't want to be a ship passing by
I wanted a part of you unconcealed
but I didn't read the fine print
that made your heart untouchable

it hurt when you left me
more than you'll ever know
you always felt half there
I should've realized:
you were just on loan

paycheck to paycheck,
I couldn't put enough away
living with you stole my past
and kept me a debt slave

you're worse than a bank
or a credit card interest rate
god forbid forgoing the credit check
because you'll never take layaway...

i'm tired of the excuses
why don't you grow up?

I should've traded you in
should've got my money's worth
I was the policyholder
on a junked out loaner

it hurt when you left me
more than you'll ever know
once I loved, you ran
I realized then:
you were just on loan
