Flower
Flower I saw you mesmerized by the shimmering petals Strategically placed by the riverside As you looked on and wondered how such a creature Had a humility so beautiful for all to see I dared to inquire what you saw in such a flower For there were bigger and bolder ones all around in sight The others caught my eye, but you continued to stare At the soul of the flower that shimmered unnaturally It must have be made of a different spirit A spirit I was unable to relate to or understand But you seemed drawn to every sparkle that was on each petal Even though its small stature made it unnoticeable to me So you answered and said that there's always a treasure In the small things of life that seem to get overlooked And this flower is no exception, as small as it seems It has a beauty surpassed only by its maker, you see? I couldn't see that, but I saw how you seemed so complete More complete than I could ever make you as your companion I would have felt more self-assured if you had picked another flower But you chose the one that I could never emulate or be. A truth in life: “It is hard to see yourself without a mirror.”
