The Passing

Deckard
I realized in those final moments
how much he'd suffered in those final days
a man who'd asked for so little
now asking his son to end his life

how selfish we can be
when we wish so desperately
to hold onto those we love
those who take a part of us when they leave

such a quiet, noble man he was
honest and pure as the Sun
yet afraid to open his heart
to say he loved me
or a smile as I left for school

but the words passed as a whisper
behind his final breath
as his spirit crossed my shoulder
'my son'

and all was settled
