If Tomorrow Never Comes...

If tomorrow never comes
I want to feel the breakers twirl
Their foamy restless skirts of white
Around my legs, my ankles
And revel in the washing sand
That frolics all about my feet
Hear the roar and wild thunder--
The sea's resounding song
I want the salty moistened breeze
To kiss my face and hair with whispers
The sunshine's bold enchanting arms
Enfold me in their welcome warmth.

If tomorrow never comes
I want to turn my face toward heaven
And standing still, eyes closed, entranced
Weeping clouds will wash my soul
The pitter-patters--notes of melancholy
Feel a thousand drops that trickle
Down my contented face
Let the scent of the earth’s bosom
Being purged and cleansed anew
Overwhelm and overtake me
As by a cloak of mist enshrouded
From the unforgiving world
My frail form is safely hid.

If tomorrow never comes
I want to gaze at lustrous sphere
That silently me watches from
Her majestic throne of stars each night
Sitting upon a blanket of clouds
That lazily drift with glowing fringe
I'll bask in her soft and lonely stare
She'll be the fullest she's ever been
And I will stand in ghostly shadows
Of the coldest night just to feel
The gentle light that emanates
From her pale, opalescent face.

If tomorrow never comes
I want to stand 'neath tallest trees
And hear their whispered secrets
Passed from branch to branch
Hear the gentle rustles
That skip from leaf to leaf
I will be dazzled by the shades
Of green that brightly shimmer
Beneath the beams of light
From the unrelenting sun
Streaming through the many
Boughs that sigh and groan.

If tomorrow never comes
I want to lose and find myself again
Amidst the fields of gold
Among the nodding poppies
Taste the freedom of carefree hills
Fill my heart with the symphony
Of the birds as they warble and chirp
I want to run with arms outstretched
Alongside the butterflies
That wing from flower to flower
And merrily flutter and flit
Beneath skies of cloudless blue.

If tomorrow never comes
I want to hold your hand and watch
Sun hide its golden face in the west
Casting inky looming shadows
Across imposing mountains
Spilling above the distant horizon
Glorious hues of orange bright
Of purple, pink, and yellow
Wispy clouds colorfully dyed
Like listless sailing cotton candy
Roaming high above the world.

If tomorrow never comes
And sun's magnificent, radiant bow
Rises for me in the sky no more
I want to feel you so close I can hear
The steady rhythm of your heart
No words needed as serenity
Engulfs the cool and tranquil air
We sit in comfortable silence
That begs to be broken only
By the deepest words of love.

So do not stir and do not speak
As the gloaming slowly slips away
Into the still, foreboding night
And the canopy of darkness
Overwhelms the endless sky
Sit here with me just like this
And if tomorrow never comes
I'll try to not shed tears
For here, today, with you this evening
I had a little taste of bliss... ♥
