Moonrise

20 Jan 2015

The sun falls below the horizon,
Leaving behind pink and orange trails.
The light fades,
     And fades,
          And fades,
Into a deep violet pool.

One by one,
Stars pop into existence
Where before was only space.
Night creatures awaken,
And await the signal.

A cool wind sweeps the land,
Pushing back my hair,
Chilling my skin,
Sending a hush through the world.

In the silence the world waits,
And is rewarded.
The darkness is broken,
As a great silvery disc
Slips out of the Earth
And into the night sky,
It rises,
     And rises,
          And rises.

The world lets out the breath
It held in anticipation.
The night comes to life
With the sounds of the wild.
They had all been waiting
For Luna's permission

I stand awed,
I stand marveling,
It is breathtaking,
This Moonrise is beautiful
