Being Me
How is it that I can be me When the tide of popular opinion Crashing upon the shores of my mind Threaten to erode my gestalt personality Into another dune washed away by the incessant waves Many offer to help They say, “What you want is admirable, Everyone should be like you. Maybe you should let go.” They offer medicine to make me ok with it And say I will get use to it in time I don’t want to I like being me Bring on the waves Pound upon my shores with fury But when the last drop of fuel in my lighthouse Sends its photons off to the far end of the universe My shores will remain firm Though I may die, as all things do, I will have lived my life the best way I can Being me
