Gratitude

I am grateful. 
Grateful for the breath
                that I breathe
It could cease at any time
                I have no control over it
I have experienced physical pain and illness
So I appreciate the good health that I get. 
 
I have been seasoned with grace
'cause I have seen very dark days
And I have had my fair share of heartbreaks.
 
Even though I have experienced
                losses
                disappointments
                loneliness
                emptiness
                failures
I have also enjoyed different blessings.
 
Thankful for tough times
Those times have helped me to grow
My mistakes have taught me valuable lessons
And they have given me opportunities to improve
 
I was once upset because I couldn’t afford a car when I was in school
                Until a friend dropped out due to lack of tuition
I have once been unhappy I didn’t have enough food
                Until I saw a person starving and begging to be fed
 
I dare not take anything
                for granted
Grateful for my skin colour and body structure
I am very grateful
                for everything.
