Frozen Chips and Nappies (Diapers...) or The Lady in Green
There she leans with chin on hands, Behind the counter with looks so fair; Lady in green waiting to serve, With Bath and Shower, Dental Care. Trolleys pushed with bags so full, Cabbage, steak and all things nice; All for family - Sunday lunch? With Gravy Mixes, Beer and Rice. For her, I see that all is packed, To prep and cook a tasty dish; For husband, lover, children too, With Sweets and Crisps and Frozen Fish. To feed our pets and line our bins, And clothe our kids they never fail; A trolley passes neatly packed, With Dog Treats, Bin Liners and Nutmeg Sale. Party time I think for her, Items in trolley piled in stacks; Many a smile as off she goes, With Party Drinks and Nuts and Snacks. A boozy pair now appears, Trolley filled with brews divine; And off they dance along the aisle, With Bottled Lager, Rosé Wine. An here I sit, I watch it all, Shoppers passing down the aisle; So up I stretch, ‘tis time to go, The Lady in Green now gives a smile. This poem is dedicated to the Morrison’s staff (including the ‘ladies in green’) who work so hard and helpfully in their Beverley store. It was occasioned by the study of the hanging (and quite helpful) labels above the aisles and from studying customer behaviour while completing their shopping. It’s quite fun, really….. Oh yes, there are also men in green waiting to serve…..

Love creativity - especially writing - poems especially. Love my wife, cats, our church, reading, warm weather (so rare here!) and snow - quite common these days - even in spring....
