Spring is Here
I look upon the Wolds so fair, Where spring has ushered life anew; With daffodils beyond compare, And carpets bright of snowdrops too. Winter’s gloom has long-since passed, So down the lane I briskly stroll; With hope and joy unsurpassed, The glory of spring I now extol. What’s that I see before me now? A cloud of starlings – so controlled - A murmuration - so strange I vow, Wheeling and swooping above the Wold. And past the copse I gaily walk, Where rooks beyond now screech and scream; And gulls ascending wheel and squawk - Of such delights – I did but dream. The sky’s so blue, the clouds so high, The sun’s so warm - my mood’s so bright; A time so fair - I can’t deny! A season blessed that does delight. Time to return – to ‘lock-down’ dread, I enter my home and feel so bad; What, I ask, now lies ahead? A cup of tea – not so sad! Just a footnote to state that the expression ‘…above the Wold.’ In the third verse is not meant to be ‘above the world’ but refers to a particular section of the local Yorkshire Wolds - as also referred to in verse 1.

Love creativity - especially writing - poems especially. Love my wife, cats, our church, reading, warm weather (so rare here!) and snow - quite common these days - even in spring....
