On a summer night our worlds collided.

The liquor flowed as we compared wild tales,

And divulged our greatest dreams and life aspirations.
I felt as if I'd know you my whole life.

I didn’t know I was missing until I heard it. 

In the Autumn one date led to another, 
The odd text became hours over the phone.
Nights out ended in the early hours of the morning.
You teased out an easiness I did not know I had. 
I had pep in my step and a carefree smile.

I was the line to your kite,
I kept you grounded.
And you lifted me up.
The love we shared was unique and strong. 
 
Winter came and you left, 
Even as we lived apart, 
Our love persevered. 
Distance made our hearts grow fonder, 
Every reunion made my heart soar. 

Spring came around,
Our love was strong, 
But you were in pain.
A sickness took your mind,
Your carefree spirit was replaced, 
A cruel depression rooted itself deep. 
I fought for you until the leaves turned brown, 
But I couldn’t fight for someone who wouldn't fight for themselves. 
My heart ached as the line frayed and you floated away.
