What Love Isn't

What kind of love only mimics words spoken
What kind of love is silent?
Leaving questions unanswered
For days and times uncertain,
This kind of love, I do not know …
Love doesn’t play games
Love doesn’t hide
Beneath a cloak of silence
Or masterful lies,
Love doesn’t hang in the distance
Watching and waiting
Anticipating,
Love doesn’t travel those roads …
Love is only happy with the truth of the light
And seeks to comfort and hold
Those dear to one’s soul,
Love is always giving
Without expectations or the need to control
Love doesn’t inflict pain on it’s intended
Strangle hellos and smother good-byes
Love doesn’t leave things hanging,
On a very thin rope
In the midst of a storm
Or turn aside in the rain
Falling from another’s wounded heart
And pretend
All is all right, while looking in the other direction
Love doesn’t operate that way
Love doesn’t play with the dark …
