Farewell to Freedom

Greet the morning light,
watch the missiles falling
after deadly night,
comes another day

bright light in the skies
watch the missiles falling
bitter tears dim eyes
comes another day

watch the new day break,
watch the missiles falling
starving folk awake
comes another day

amongst anguished cries
watch the missiles falling
children daily die
comes another day

watch aid trucks coming
watch the missiles falling
see the people running
comes another day

In the day's harsh sun
watch the missiles falling
another race begun
comes another day

angry crowds are growing
watch the missiles falling
soon there will be fighting
comes another day

armed troops now observing
watch the missiles falling
watching unfair sharing
comes another day

soon they will start shooting
watch the missiles falling
blaming it on looting
comes another day

in never ending strife
watch the missiles falling
that's the daily life
comes another day

where all must contrive
watch the missiles falling
somehow to stay alive
comes another day

hard times are now here
watch the missiles falling
bid farewell to freedom
comes another day

I was listening to Matt Armour's call and response song and wondered what he would make of the conflict in the middle east
So I wrote this to be sung to Matt's "The Isle Of May"
Cilla Fisher version of the original is here for those who want tune and format
