Farewell to Freedom
Greet the morning light, watch the missiles falling after deadly night, comes another day bright light in the skies watch the missiles falling bitter tears dim eyes comes another day watch the new day break, watch the missiles falling starving folk awake comes another day amongst anguished cries watch the missiles falling children daily die comes another day watch aid trucks coming watch the missiles falling see the people running comes another day In the day's harsh sun watch the missiles falling another race begun comes another day angry crowds are growing watch the missiles falling soon there will be fighting comes another day armed troops now observing watch the missiles falling watching unfair sharing comes another day soon they will start shooting watch the missiles falling blaming it on looting comes another day in never ending strife watch the missiles falling that's the daily life comes another day where all must contrive watch the missiles falling somehow to stay alive comes another day hard times are now here watch the missiles falling bid farewell to freedom comes another day I was listening to Matt Armour's call and response song and wondered what he would make of the conflict in the middle east So I wrote this to be sung to Matt's "The Isle Of May" Cilla Fisher version of the original is here for those who want tune and format https://youtu.be/OQ5LXzz-y8w?si=jMxeriThhcZ78g7k
