27 YEARS LATER...

footprints leading down long road to freedom paved with heartache, reconciliation, voters. In this cinquain I have deliberately played with the title of Nelson Mandela's book 'Long Walk to Freedom' so that anyone who does not know who spent 27 years in prison in South Africa will hopefully recognise that Nelson Mandela is the subject of this poem. The title of this poem is actually MADIBA, but I had to change it as it has apparently already been used elsewhere on the forum (I could not think up anything better for a substitute for Madiba I'm afraid - mind was blank). Madiba is the affectionate name by which Nelson Mandela is known by those who hold him in high esteem.
