3:12 am Deep slumber disturbed angry barking violates night Quiet! Go to sleep! All to no avail. carefully descending dark staircase wedging door open awareness sharpens straining eyes unable to see every heartbeat trembles swallowing anxiously the unknown daring me outside dog’s frantic frenzy force my exposure discordant rustling assaults sensitive hearing Wild Rumbling Growl! my eyes disbelieving shaky unwilling legs faint voice gasps WTF! Awesome! Quills bristling indignantly a huge porcupine grazing sniffling amongst lilies in my backyard. This really happened at 3:12 am this morning in Fourways, Johannesburg! Lanie-8 May 2009
