A BOX OF LOVE

21 Dec 2021

·James Gordon

The year has been hard and money tight, for every penny I've had to fight. But presents bought put beneath the tree, chosen with love by my wife and me. Christmas day and breakfast done, now gifts are opened one by one. Eyes are bright and there's tears of joy, as wrappings are torn, form an expected toy. I opened my gift I stand and stare, for I look inside but there's nothing there, Well just a note was there inside, with these words in pen inscribed. Tears came to my eyes as the words I read, I'll relate to you just what it said. No rings of gold or partridge in tree. no electronic gadgetry. No tie, no socks, no turtle dove, just this box stuffed full of love. I've kept that box, that gift of mine, I open it up from time to time. And as I read that treasured note, still it brings, to my throat a lump, No better gift have I had so far, that box of love has set the bar.
