A Christmas Dream

In the darkness of the night I prepared myself to sleep. I heard the silence of the snow On this peaceful Christmas Eve. As I lay, I heard a noise Jingling bells that grew so loud. Then stopped and I just had to look And locate the tinkling sound. At the window, I peeped out A big man grinned back gleefully. On a sleigh and holding reins Of reindeer waiting patiently. I went outside to board the sleigh And sit down with the other three. Under the blanket that covered us Safe because they'd come for me. My mum was there, My husband too. Joanna smiled My wish was true. Then off we went up flying high Over the roofs Through a star - littered sky. We flew and talked; mum said to me "In Heaven they're honest, just like me. "The grass is green, the sky is blue "They sit with me while I watch you. Then Robert turned to me and said "You mustn't hurt because I'm dead. "You said you'd love me 'till we part "Our mortal lives were just the start. Joanna said "I'm in the air "I'm sometimes here and often there. "With you so much; it's hard to leave "I know you sometimes notice me. We spoke of times That we'd all shared. When life was all No death was there. They quietened down The sleigh had slowed. Once more The silence of the snow. Santa turned and said to me "Two gifts for you this Christmas Eve. "One's the spirit of a child "Who'll wait for Christmas "Quiet and wild. "Expectant of their greatest gift "That topped their little Christmas list. "Your adult list was in your head "But I am Santa and I read "All you'd loved in all you'd seen "And so I gave a Christmas Dream.
