A Fading Dream
Awakened in the night, To the knowledge that you’re gone, But knowing that I’ve dreamt of you, Before the coming dawn, I still can feel your presence, I can smell you on my skin, And through this sheet, I feel your heat, That soothes me from within. I close my weary eyes, As I attempt to bring you back, To once more see your image, Reappearing through the black, The familiar warmth and tingle, That I felt when you were near, Your image fades, in graying shades, That slowly disappear. It seems my own subconscious, Sets to twist again the knife, In the years passed since the tragic day, That fire took your life, Your memory still haunts me, And although I sometimes weep, I see your face, and felt embrace, That visits where I sleep.
