A Fumbled Thanksgiving

A Fumbled Thanksgiving Down long winding highways… Over two western states, To eat Thanksgiving turkey Off Grandmas’ fine plates. The truck clunked and broke down About half the way there. We were stuck in the Rockies, Which gave us a scare! We slept in a rest stop, The cement bench was cold! That move; thinking back now, Was more stupid than bold. Sun, rising at daybreak, Our tow trucks arrives. He loaded the pickup On ice sharp as knives! Groveling into the tow truck Teeth chattering so hard… We were starving to death… With no “bucks” on the card. Down winding highways And steep canyon roads… I sat on the gear shift; A Pain nobody knows. Finally at Grandma’s, With no time to spare The turkey was roasted; The family was there! Thanks we then uttered, For the blessing’s we knew. And so grateful at heart That we could have had stew! 1/14/12 IlaMae Stucki(c)
