"A Hired Hand"
"The Fence Maker" At age sixteen he hired out, to earn himself some pay. He'd help folks with the tough jobs, they liked his friendly way. At six feet four his frame was strong,a real hard worker, not a quitter. He could swing an axe all day long, they called him "Abe, the rail splitter". That frontier land was forest thick, folks had to clear their space. Then they could build a cabin, and stake and claim their place. Panthers .wolves, and even bears, were always on one's mind. A big strong fence was needed to keep livestock behind. Abe knew how to build them, he'd chop the hardest wood, then split them into rails, and size them as he should. Folks relied on him to build their fence, he always did it right. His formula was simple; Horse high--Bull strong--Pig Tight.
