A Leaf

I watched the falling leaves, then sunrise red Sail smoothly through a night of idle stillness, Like dancers in a bustling grand ballet They swayed and waltzed through air of autumn fragrance. They danced in feisty spins and fiery flips In lunges long and soaring like an eagles Teasing gravity with each illusive move. Wings folded they swirled softly into earth And dove into a crimson-golden ocean Whose waves drew life from every breath of wind. I held a tiny dancer in my hands Its jagged edges gently grazing skin, Like a palm reader traced each tender crease And beheld a humble masterpiece of nature. Its stature fit for gracing grand museums And I fear it shall someday be so.
