A Letter to my Mother

Oh, Mother, what have you done to me? I never wanted to be like you, I struggle understand your world- But love, its the same for you and me. We latch on the people like the leeches we are We make them love is before they know us We make them idolize what we could be Because they would run if they knew what we are. Our mother’s ruined us. It’s a long standing family tradition, isn’t it? We are damaged beyond repair, They wouldn’t love us if they knew us. We smile, and laugh. We are relatable and passionate. When we talk it’s like the world stops- And when it spins to catch up, they laugh. We can only hide our ugly so long. How many times have we failed to marry? Five for you, two for me? I think I’ll stop trying before too long. I don’t want to be like you- Forty with a baby, alone and in debt. Every kid with a different last name I’m young, I can change, I don’t have to be you. I actively ask myself “What would my mother do?” And then I do the opposite. Did the same thing with Grandma? Will I be like her? I really don’t want to. She one of the was the enablers. She let you break spirits and hearts, She always made it better. At least you admit your kids have different fathers. Why are we like this? What cures is on our name? What poison in our blood? What lesson did we miss? Why are we so broken? What happened, mother? How do I fix it? What words when spoken can break this spell? How do I make us good? I don’t want to be empty anymore. Quick, I think people can tell- Please, why aren’t we normal? It’s genetic, I know- But what is it? What in my blood isn’t normal? I want to be happy! I want to be loved! Mom- What are we doing wrong? Why can’t we be happy?
