A Light - 'Twas So Bright - So Hopeful
This was a note discovered in a box in a quarry – not signed – who was the individual written about? Who was the writer? The writing on the paper: His eyes he opened - so painful now, Bitter rain still lashed his face; Such chill he felt upon his brow - Reflects his life - so sad! – so base! Oh so dark upon the lane! No friends to help - by all reviled; Along the path he struggled in vain, With gale-force wind – so fierce! - so wild! Then he saw, above so high, Nearer then nearer - a glaring light, “What is this?” was then his cry “So close it is! – so close! – so bright!” In fear he crawled on hands and knees, So blinded now he felt so scared; But then he felt his tensions ease! A shock indeed! - so pleased! - so spared! His eyes he closed - no more alone, “Relax!” he heard a voice so near; A kindly voice – so peaceful a tone, “Relax, my boy!” – so calm! – so clear! No longer cold, no longer raw, Up he looked – a face so kind; So happy then with what he saw He closed his eyes - so safe – so ……. Who wrote this note? Having read about this incident – limited as it is – I wondered whether this was just a re-telling of a young boy’s nightmare before being woken up …. By whom? His father? Or could it have been the story of a homeless young man ‘on the streets’ in winter suffering in the bitter cold? Perhaps it could be that he collapsed on the road and went through the process of dying? So whose was the voice he heard who’d told him to relax? And what happened next? The reader will have realised (of course) that the notes at the beginning and end of the poem are actually a part of the poem......

Love creativity - especially writing - poems especially. Love my wife, cats, our church, reading, warm weather (so rare here!) and snow - quite common these days - even in spring....
