A little girl

Her mother didn't care, she didn't want to know Never any love or kindness did she show The poor little girl didn't know what to do So battled on, hoping she'd pull through She was so young yet she'd seen the ugly side of life She'd felt the beatings, been threatened with a knife Along came her mother's boyfriends, told her that she must They didn't treat her fairly, neither were they just But her mother didn't listen, she said they never would So that little girl did the only thing she could She ran away hoping her mother'd call her back She fled into the darkness of the night so black For many days she wondered, starved and going off her head All she wanted was a meal and a warm bed But she soon learnt that protection must come first That poor little girl could have sworn that she was cursed Still she needed money to pay for her next meal So she shut out the pain and pretended it wasn't real She got her money, though I will not tell you how Though terrified, onwards she did plough Yet this little girl, who acted twice her age Was never happy in this ghastly cage How did it all end? This I cannot tell Let's hope that little girl escaped her prison cell
