A Lively Haste
My child often stands against his door While telling me how tall he wants to be And marking lines an arm-length from his head In years too soon adulthood will offset What's lost from youth with privileges and debt So I tell him to live his days instead And I will measure any growth I see (But not the growth I've chosen to ignore) I know this poem was posted recently, but I have made several significant changes to it and feel it should show up as a revision. Here is the revised version. My child often stands against his door While telling me how tall he wants to be And marking lines an arm-length from his head, I fear too soon adulthood will offset His growing spurts with privileges and debt! So I suggest I mark his door instead And watch him close for any growth I see (But not for growth I've chosen to ignore)
