A Million Midnights
I spent a million midnights longing for your love, I dreamed of touching you, us together hand in glove. And when you walked away, tired of our sad old game, for a million midnights I cried and called your name. I knew you were gone for good and it could never work, you would go on as before and I was left to lurk. So I spent a million midnights in a frenzy dialed your phone, you answered but I couldn’t speak and I remained alone. Now years have passed and love’s secure, I’m hers, she’s mine, my friend, my wife so dear. But you are still there hiding in my mind it seems, and I spend a million midnights as you come to me in dreams. Doesn’t it seem ironic how as time rolls along I hold onto you no more, and it’s you who won’t be gone?
