she reached into her pocket for one more dime, certain it would provide the answer in all the ways this time, pulling pieces of the riddle together around that one thing that would make all the diffference, it seemed the hairs on the back of her neck bristled as the shadow drew near and sliced through the night ' what is your life?' breathed the whisper from nowhere in particular a plane faltered above as the engine sputtered and stopped looking up, she saw nothing but did feel an incomprehensible fear just the same. she thought for a moment and put back the dime, her pocket full of dreams would wait...
