A Step Backward
Purple flowers bloomed from the night sky Our skin touched the seams of our well-sewn hearts Spilling fountains of love oozing from crevices Flames alight between our mended bodies As the earths surface rumbled beneath our feet The tree's released secrets from plumes of wind We danced for nights before day shattered the moon And while the frozen grass pierced the air, we kissed Our lips locked as we purposely lost the key Days became weeks, and weeks became life-times But the beat of the wind never changed and neither did we Your brown hair now silver like the years that aged you Still staring into your water rippled eyes As the days changed our love was left untouched While your aged skin became memories And your hair became seconds of a forever picture Summer stained our skin as the winter intruded We still lay on the hills while they absorb us Butterflies caress the winds lips As the clouds sway to the sky's music While we lay there, unaged.
