A Summer's Night

Well, the good news is that I came across a stash of papers from when I was around 17 (Don't ask how long ago that was!) and busy in the throes of hormonal shifts, boy crushes, creativity and fascinated with sci fi and the end of the world, all colliding together with a new-found interest in poetry. some of them make me wince, some aren't bad, I liked this one, even though the meter is off, I enjoyed reading it. I will probably post a few more after i fix them up Shall I compare you to this summer’s night? Will you be more lovely in the soft, unlit light? Will those qualities which you possess Outstand more clearly in the loveliness Of the pure and sweet simplicity Of a haunting, magical summer’s eve? Hear the softness of the swaying trees, The slowly lifting of branches and leaves Wistfully whirling within the breeze. Listen to these sounds amidst their splendor As the moon rises among peacefulness of wonder. Ask if you will of the wonders of a summer’s world. As I lead you through a midnight dream, A wonderland of beauty and sights unseen, Will you hear my words, thoughtfully said, Quietly spoken as we walk among nature’s bed? Will eyes so blind, unveiled to such simple sweetness Find the love in a heart which has opened wide its doors? Shall I take you through the long, silent sandy shores Of secrets long kept, now opened for your eyes? Will you outshine the beauties of God’s hand? The silence of a night carries a musical spell As softly we walk down a starlit path And a breeze carries a small, wavering laugh.
