A Voice From The Grave

(A ballad) Oh, wake me up as the sun goes down My true love said to me And so I sat in my finest gown With his rucksack on my knee He never smiled when he woke that day For his smiling days were done He kissed my lips, went on his way With his rucksack and his gun I passed that day, I passed the week I passed more months and years I passed into my ripe old age And long ran out of tears The telephone rang yesterday And I heard a soft voice say Go softly, darling, into night As I, on my dying day note: my challenge was to write a ballad in the correct style of ancient poets. I hope I made it interesting too.

Started writing poems at age 14, lyrics a lot later and am still doing both to my astonishment. Along the way I wrote a couple of novels and they are published by Amazon. I am gloriously happy in my marriage, after 50 years and I am relieved to say...
