A Wallflower's First Love
All the day long Chrysanthemum sat, as butterflies fluttered by this way and that. See! Said she, if we were aflight how it must be under Sun's morning light! The other flowers heard not, their focus above, each on the one whom they sought and thought of. They stretched to the sky their necks straight and tall, then laid their hearts bare, making the call. One by one the butterflies set upon every young blossom down in the lawn. Each had her own, pairs all around, save for the one alone in the ground. Just as Chrysanthemum began to fret, she saw the most magnificent yet. Alas, so too did jealous Dogbane who, out of spite, her love she did feign. Her hatred was great for Chrysanthemum, thus whispered to the butterfly, 'Come get some.' Butterfly began flapping wings harder. His sweet reward was not that much farther. The siren song of that poisonous weed entices him to commit the fatal deed. Under Dogbane's spell, enchanted by her lies, despite Chrysanthemum's plea he nears his demise. The virgin bud then emitted her scent, the whole of her prayers having been spent. When all of a sudden a hint of slight breeze caused Butterfly to go weak in the knees. Whence did that come? Butterfly was curious. Dogbane's leaves shuddered, her telling glare furious. Butterfly landed on Chrysanthemum's petals, which turned shades of red the the deeper he settles. Butterfly stayed to take in his fill, patiently sitting, perfectly still. Then, rising again to take his leave, he fluttered into the air among the trees. Chrysanthemum hopes he'll come back again. Loneliness is her closest friend. But then a gentle reminder from the wind, assures her all will work out in the end
