A Wasted Youth

A Wasted Youth Like the drug addled ramblings of a lady with 12 cats So goes my wasted youth quickly Without sense. Thoughts are irrelevant; fly away, as logic serves nothing. As the jumbled words spill from her trembling tongue Vowels and continents clash, desperate for meaning, desperate to be. Such is my wasted youth, uncontrolled, unprotected. Hopes and dreams contorted till they slip Through my fingers and slither out of reach. I see them no more. No one listens as the lady speaks, her actions and words trip over each other Like chattering children with nothing to say. So goes my wasted youth, the buzz of noise, ideas they run Run like rats, scrambling, scuttling, searching my cerebellum depths For what will save my pitiful soul. Save me from the jarring nothingness, Where echoes of my mind haunt me as happiness missed, Show me my youth was wasted not. Amongst the writhing jumble leftover, hope springs high One letter is all it takes and one more after that More accidents of the alphabet system rise Daring to hope, daring to dream, daring to live. As the single conscious thought the crack lady makes So the accidents become one. One is all it takes. So my wasted youth transforms; from stumbling, slurring Uncertainty to strides of purpose. The drugs drain away, the lady feels naked What has she said or done? When the frenzy filled fumbling of my youth is done…someone Show me my youth was wasted not.
