A baby crying in the drain Tears falling down its cheeks like rain It was in pain It was crying for its mother It was yearning for its father But no one, would bother A young woman was seen hiding a bundle in a sewage spot No one asked any questions, no one gave it a thought An infant thrown into the deep end, for its life it helplessly fought For its battle was already lost the moment its mom left it without getting caught An elderly woman came passing by and heard the cries Knew instantly that it was a baby child and searched for it with her eyes Couldn't find it so she continued with her journey Every now and then throwing searching looks behind Her mind wouldn't shut out the screams, in her ears she kept hearing A baby crying in the drain Tears falling down its cheeks like rain It was in pain It was crying for its mother It was yearning for its father But no one, would bother One day, while waiting at a station for the train, talk began About kids having kids of their own at a young age and then Dumping them, abandoning them to fend for themselves for the sake of having fun Don't they know from life's problems you can't hide nor run Soon, the talk turned to a kid heard crying on the way to the station Common was the fact that the hearers struggled all day for concentration It gnawed on their consciousness how they could ignore such a painful plea Have they lost Ubuntu and into animals, is that what they've come to be? How could they not act when they clearly heard A baby crying in the drain Tears falling down its cheeks like rain It was in pain It was crying for its mother It was yearning for its father But no one, would bother (c)Zux The Poet.
