Against Her Grain
I am the method through which nature achieves my effect I saw an MMA fighter fighting in an online video clip And it reminded me of how nature keeps on doing its thing Even when we feel that we do it for some other purpose I am the method through which nature achieves my effect Though what is nature but for some rules and of causes? And so I came to understand that what achieves me is dead Like a wheel inside of a wheel that just keeps on turning I am the method through which nature achieves my effect I have a set of parameters and it meets with others I survive as long as the meeting is mostly congruent There are checks regarding physical collision and mental I am the method through which nature achieves my effect And although I might kick and scream like a little baby I am to partake else to be excreted by natural selection For he who works will eat while the weakling is aborted I am the method through which nature achieves my effect I looked at the blank parchment that the ages will undo I thought of old ladies who embellish stories of squirrels Why would I bore you with how I am able to pet with words? I am the method through which nature achieves my effect So I looked at the contribution of Tolkien's many works And it reminded me of how so much of us is orchestrated And even though you tie my hands behind my back, mother I decided to deploy against your reins of mighty power The most useful tool enjoyed by both great and small You can make me act and make some instinctive choices But what is mine to choose is to internalize with laughter
