ALDERNEY 1940 Neighbour France has fallen, Paris occupied And we are unprotected except by wind and tide Already tanks and troops can be seen on Normandy So do we stay or do we go, dividing Alderney. Our young lads have gone to fight on Churchill's beaches Leaving us confused trying to pick upfamily pieces Forgottenand abandonedChannel Islands mystery And wefeel so alone on windswept Alderney. If we stay what will happen when invading troops Will they burn and wreak, force us out and loot Will we have to work? Subversent bend the knee Is that our fate farming Nazi Alderney. If we go what will happen and all that we believe Homes, families, Church's so hard to concede They can break it all away, change our history Oh what is to happen on tiny Alderney. We gathered in the street to hear our leader's voice Have to make a decision have to make a choice But lets be all together and be one island be So do we stay or do we go he asked all on Alderney. Silence for a minute thinking suffer or abort Thenshout from the back" Lets fight them from abroad" Let's go, Let's go, Let's go. Criedthe community Let's go, Let's go, Let's go. Cried all on Alderney. Family treasure buried then just one case to pack We left for the boats, could not bear to kill the cat Then just one last look, we casted off for England's sea And wondered if we would ever return to Alderney.
